DO NOT BUY A SENTRY SAFE--JUNK, JUNK, JUNK!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
DO NOT BUY A SENTRY SAFE. Bought their safe because their motto is "a lifetime safe". Unfortunately that is a huge lie! We simply opened the door and the door fell completely off the safe. Two 3/4" bolts go into the frame on the side of the door you can see but on the side you can't see the entire door is held on with only 4 rivets the size of a pencil lead.....what a manufacturing joke! We had the safe less than 8 years stored in a clean dry bedroom and Sentry will not repair or replace this huge pile of crap with no door. DO NOT BUY SENTRY.

Another Sentry Safe Disaster

I join the chorus of dissatisfied Sentry Safe (OA3817) purchasers. I have had water damage to documents. When I called Sentry to complain they reinforced the notion of airing the safe out regularly; leaving the door open etc.. I bought a safe to keep my documents locked up and secure. I have had it with babysitting this Sentry safe. I will do diligent research before purchasing another. It will be left out for garbage collection.

Top hinge unhinged

Sentry Safe - Top hinge unhinged
Updated by user Dec 01, 2018

Never got a reply from their customer service. Hard to believe the hinge would separate from the safe due to rust from the weld, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Ended up taking the safe to a landfill for disposal. Will not do business with this firm again.

Sentry safe hinge weld rusted and now the hinge is completely detached As the picture shows, the rust originated from the weld. This is definitely not a quality product

Safe is all mildew and my jewelry has corrosion and papers smell musty

This safe has had a problem since I purchased it. It must have had some interior moisture.

All my jewelry is corroding, some is green, and it all smells.

All my important papers also smell musty.

I would not recommend this to anyone.

Yesterday I discovered the same problem (thick Yellow mold on everything in my safe) with my sentry safe. Now I have a huge mess.

I have two other safes before the sentry safe and they both still work fine and I have never have any problems with them. There is a problem with Sentry safe construction. What I have discovered is behind the plastic cap on the back side of the door there is an area that breeds the mold.

I believe that by the time these safes come from the factory to the warehouse, to the consumer mold is already growing in the area I described. It then takes a while for it to permeate the rest of the safe.

Key Order not received yet.

I needed a override key for my Sentry Safe, order the key almost 2 weeks ago and still have not received it in the mail. I thought it would be faster service considering that I explain to the customer service representative that it was urgent that I get into the safe meeting important documents and other teas that were locked in the safe. I work for a security company and it's imperative that we used to save on a daily basis. Problem still not resolved after almost two weeks.

Difficulty in getting customer support

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have recently purchased a Sentry Safe online from Officeworks, Australia. I live in Melbourne, Australia. The safe was delivered to my apartment on 10th September. Since I was getting my apartment renovated, I did not have a chance to try out the safe till three days ago. At first, the handle was too stiff and would not turn. After several tries, I managed to turn the handle. Now, the door will not open. It is too difficult for me to get it done. I have emailed the Company twice, but have not got any resolution to my problem. Since there is not local customer support number, I cannot speak to anyone about it. Please give me a local number I can call, since this product is sold in Australia. Hoping to hear back from you soon.

Broken handle

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I purchased my Sentry safe 10 months ago. The handle just swings back and forth.

This is the 3rd safe in 13 years I have bought for my office. I called customer service and they told me my safe was 13 years old. I told them how could that be. They said Sam's club must of had it in their warehouse that long, and they no long make that model.

or have parts to fix it. I won't buy this brand ever again. And for Sam's Club shame on you for selling old and obsolete stuff.

All the safes I bought before the same thing happened to them. Each time I bought the bigger one and better one I thought.

Sentry doesnt care when you bought the safe. They do not keep parts in stock to repair any unit they sell.

They want to offer you a discount on buying a new unit.

I have a gun safe that can be opened with only 2 of the 3 numbers being used and they didnt care. Avoid this brand.

Blame Walmart/Sam's Club, not Sentry safe.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Bought a safe 3-4 years ago. The handle is not working we have the right code, the batteries are full. Have to pay 25 ++ because THEIR safe broke. Our passeports are in the safe we are leaving on May 1st. Not sure their 25$ key will get here before. WORST people I have ever deal with, they DO NOT care about customers. STAY AWAY. Tried contacting lock smith 600$ to open the safe, which is double the price of the safe itself. I am telling you and I will tell as much people as I can. STAY AWAY. They have no pitty for you, they do NOT try to help (like offering express shipping or whatever). It's their product and THEY CANNOT fix it. They will NOT refund the 25 event though its THEIR fault.

Terrible service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My son purchased a safe for my for my birthday three weeks ago. I just received this gift and there were no keys in the box.

I registered the safe on line and requested new keys. They say I have to pay 25.00 for new keys because the safe was purchased more than three weeks ago. This is terrible service. I will never purchase from them again.

I tried speaking with management via phone and they were uncooperative . This is a sentry safe model c-9570**** and I feel the company should stand behind their products.

A new set of two keys cannot possible cost 25.00 to produce. New keys should be sent to me at no charge.

Sounds more like you’re the moron who didn’t have the receipt. Stay away from small objects, you obviously can’t be trusted with them.

I had the receipt. they still would not send new keys because the reciept was 21 days old. pay attention.

Machele Imf

They charge for keys because people lose them and then claim they never got them or only one, etc. However, $25 does seem rather exorbitant.

There are other brands of safes out there, but you might want to try a local locksmith to see if they can help you. The keys for safes are not all that special a i suspect a good locksmith has the ability or experience to help you.

And, of course never buy a Sentry safe again. But, do try a good locksmith.

Bad Safes from SentrySafe

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought a Sentry Safe and it does not work properly. It can be made to function with new batteries every month but the use of the safe is keeping possessions and documents safe for years, not hours!

I called Call the SentrySafe Customer Care Line: 1-80*-828-**** and explained the problem three times. The first time I was told the safe was NOT guaranteed. I read the female technical representative the warrantee from the box. She agreed but said that ONLY covered the steel box and NOT the opening and closing mechanism.

After arguing that was STUPID, she agreed and said there was a solution but it would require a process of elimination, starting with the least likely component failure working toward the actual problem. This was the standard delay procedure they used to try and wear down consumers until they would accept the loss. She said the first thing to change was the battery drawer, and she would send me one for a $10.00 charge. I argued again she was completely stupid if she thought I was going to pay for warrantee changes especially when it is a part know NOT to be the problem.

She checked with her boss and said they could mail it out free of charge. She sent the wrong battery drawer. I called back on receiving the wrong part, I called and told then they sent the wrong part. This was a different technical representative, (this time male so I could tell it was a different person) apologized and said they would send the correct part.

I did not give him my name or explain the problem other than the wrong part was sent, but yet he knew it was the wrong part. Therefore this is a ploy to also wear down the consumer not an actual attempt to resolve the problem. I received nothing for 2 weeks and called again. This time the technical representative told me they were NOT going to fix the safe and honor the warrantee.

He said I had to make do with a safe where the batteries died every few weeks and that was the way it is!!!!!! The ignorant technical representative told me I could possibly extend the life by getting name brand alkaline batteries with at least a 10 year exploration date. I argued this was not possible as I had not seen batteries with a ten–year exploration. He said they were available if I found the correct shop that sold the most recently produced batteries.

He explained that hundreds of people have called with this complaint and once they used the correct batteries they were quite satisfied. THIS IS A LIE ! ! !

Not that hundreds of people have complained about the short battery life, I am sure that is true of everyone who has purchased an electronic SentrySafe in the pass few years. What is NOT true is that everyone is satisfied! First of all the use of the batteries the technical representative suggested are NOT listed on the outside of the box and people would NOT be happy to find special batteries. Second they would not be satisfied that this extends the life to 6 months, when it should be years.

Third people to do NOT call back to say “I’m happy now” ! ! ! !

SentrySafe is selling defective product and will not honor the warrantee. The boxes do not say the battery life is expected to be 6 months at the most.

The boxes do not say special batteries are required. The boxes do not say the SentrySafe will not honor the warrantee explicitly stated on the box.

No no no. You should be ashamed of yourself.

A grown adult acting the way you act toward representatives who are only doing as they’re told, on top of being uncooperative and hostile?

You deserve absolutely no help at all. Glad you lost some money.
